Managing anger successfully can make the difference between misery or happiness. if you’re unable to manage your anger it can affect your life in many different ways, it can hurt your relationships with friends, family and co-workers, it can seriously impact your work performance and causes physical and emotional harm to yourself and others, it can even affect your health and increase the likelihood of getting ill.
What is true is that external events can (and do) provide us with opportunities to become angry. you know that flat tire when you are running late, or your suitcase that somehow didn’t get with you on the same flight. The unfortunate part is that people embrace these opportunities all too readily. You can, if you want, choose not to lose your temper. Either way, the choice is entirely yours.
So whatever fancy anger management techniques you may have came across before or any of the ones you will see here below that can be helpful to you in dealing with anger , please remember that the most important one always depends on the choice that you make. Again its up to you to get angry or not it’s always your choice.
Practical Anger Management techniques :
1- Go somewhere else- Remove yourself from the situation that is making you angry. If it’s possible, try a short walk outside, or up and down some corridors in your workplace or home.
2- Others are not the enemy- Anger is a survival emotion and it’s there in your emotional system to protect you when you are in survival mode to protect you from your enemies so keep in mind that others are not the enemy.
3- Exercise, Exercise, Exercise – This is a great one, and one of the most effective ways to deal with anger and positively channel all that negative anger energy and transform the way you feel , exercise works like magic and that’s a fact. I know it’s not easy to take off to the gym whenever someone or something makes you angry at the office but if you can get exercise to be a part of your daily routine, you will be surprised how effectively you will be able to handle anger.
4- life isn’t fair- if you accept the fact that life really isn’t fair so there is no reason to expect it to be fair to you. If you really believe this fact it can certainly change your perception of triggers or events that make you angry and help you manage that anger better.
5- Anger can never help you- problem solve instead of getting angry.
